At West Acres Animal Hospital, we see the benefit of having a well mannered and well-socialized dog on a daily basis. This was the inspiration behind us starting West Acres Puppy school. At the end of our course, we aim to have young dogs who are better able to cope with new situations, meeting new people and interacting with other dogs and animals.
Our puppy school classes are focused on happy learning with positive reinforcement. The puppies (and owners!) learn in a fun and relaxed environment. Basic obedience and correct socialization are the keystone aspects to a well-behaved and well-adjusted pet.
Our course is a Hills registered Puppy School, with training techniques by Dr Quixi Sonntag, a well-known trainer and vet behaviourist.
We are vet focused: during each class, a veterinary related topic will be discussed. Basic health care aspects are also addressed during the course. The course runs for 6 weeks, with one class taking place at West Acres Animal Hospital, as an outing with new sights and sounds. Puppies often learn that going to the vet is scary. We aim to teach our puppies early on, that going to the vet is not a bad or scary occasion. We get them used to being touched all over the body and handled by different people, all while making positive associations with lots of praise and treat rewards.
Our classes are small – 6 to 8 puppies per class with two trainers. We can easily and quickly identify if someone is having difficulty mastering a new technique and give personal attention. Smaller classes also allow us to help those with more boisterous dogs get settled in and focused on the task at hand.
By joining up our puppy school, you are securing a happy healthy future for your pet.
We Look forward to hearing from you!
